Equidistant from Hartford and New Haven and set on the Connecticut River, Middletown's name truly fits.
Middletown was incorporated in 1650 under the name Mattabeseck and renamed in 1953 to Middletown. Once a busy sailing port, Middletown is now mainly a residential town that has a bustling downtown. It still has several boat launches to appeal to boating enthusiasts. In the downtown area, there are many restaurants, shops and entertainment options. Attractions in town include Kidcity Children's Museum, Harbor Park and Wadsworth Falls State Park. Middletown is home to Wesleyan University, a private Liberal Arts college and Middlesex Community College. The town also has two Roman Catholic schools, Xavier High School and Mercy High School, which attract students from surrounding towns.
